Northampton County is located along the eastern border of Pennsylvania, as a part of the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos. The Delaware River runs along the eastern edge of Northampton County, separating it from New Jersey. The county is one of the most industrially-oriented regions in the nation, producing anthracite coal, cement, and other industrial products. Bethlehem Steel, once one of the world's largest manufacturers of steel, was located there prior to its 2003 closing.
There are 2 cities, 17 townships and 19 boroughs located in Northampton County. Also within the county are 10 public school districts, 5 private area schools and a charter school. The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for Performing Arts is a 4-year Charter High School offering majors in Dance, Figure Skating, Instrumental & Vocal Music, Theatre and Visual Art. Northampton County is also home to Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Moravian College and Northampton County Community College.
Historic Bethlehem is a beautiful place to see as well. It is a city of nearly 72,000 people, known for its rich colonial and industrial history. Today, Bethlehem is experiencing an economic and cultural growth! There is city life, recreation, entertainment, history, and maybe most famous of all, Christmas. Don’t miss the “Bethlehem By Night” tour at Christmas!
The Sands Casino, located in Bethlehem, is the newest attraction in Northampton County. There are 3,000 slot machines, ranging from the penny slots to the high-limit room. Among the many dining options created for you in the casino, the first Emeril Lagasse signature restaurant in the Northeast is located here! You can also find live entertainment throughout the casino!
Other attractions in Northampton County include The Crayola Factory, a great treat for the whole family, there are 2 State Parks to enjoy, and the Lehigh Valley Zoo is just a quick hop away. Or catch a Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game in Allentown, also right outside the county limits!
We also claim fame for being the home of Larry Holmes, The Rock, The Andretti Family (from professional racing), Christine Taylor (actress and wife of Ben Stiller), Daniel Day Kim (actor most famously known as Jin-Soo Kwon on the Lost series), and Brian Schneider (a professional baseball player for the New York Mets).
